Marjorie Williams-Smith, Artist

Marjorie has been working with silverpoint since 1985. Silverpoint is an especially challenging medium, but that is part of the allure. The effect of light on a metal line creates a shimmering quality that is quite different from any other drawing medium.

Marjorie's recent body of work is called Black Fields, and the drawings focus on crops cultivated by enslaved Africans. Enslaved workers labored under harsh conditions and yet, they survived. This is American history that needs to be fully explored and understood.
